Secret ballot

One of the ways we push back against people trying to shame us into voting the way they think we should vote, not vote in a way that reflects our consciences, is by opening our big mouths and blabbing about it.

DON’T.

You have a right to a secret ballot.  Without the “secret” part, the ballot loses much of its meaning, because peer pressure is – and has always been – a thing.

They tell me that this increased peer pressure is going to be a big tool next vote, so I made this meme today to help fight back.

Use it if it pleases you.  Make a better one if not.

It’s not the exit polls that worry me, it’s the social media peer pressure. The CONSTANT pressure to vote a certain way or you’re “not on my team”. NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Also, NO.

You DON’T get to ask me how I voted. It leads to very bad places.

I just kind of figured that a lot of the press screeching over 51% of the white women in FL voting for DeSantis for instance, was a result of exit polling. This then transfers over into the news cycle on social media. etc.

You don’t do FB (sensible woman) so you don’t see the “just unfriend me if you voted for …” nonsense. As well as the warmup to the votes, the “we’re going to vote like rawr!” um… k. Your level of emotion while voting is irrelevant. THAT you vote is relevant. That you inform yourself prior to voting is important. That your vote makes you part of a giant team is… not. No. No thanks.
