but I think I want to write a book. So you’re going to get a lot of rough-drafts. Well, I warned you about that. I *want* your constructive criticism, so lay it on me.
Darkness: John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Light: 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
We’re in a dark time. In darkness, we are called to be light.
It is the hour of 1 Peter – the Church is being called filthy names on all sides. We could dispute these libels (and to those given this gift, may God be with you). But most of us aren’t called to debate – we’re called to live with purity, so those that accuse us can feel the accusing finger pointing at their own souls.
How can we be light? We can be *different*. Not different meaning, “we’ll get a dress-code” but different and attractive. We don’t want to be exclusionary – we’re Christians. We want to be lights that draw others to the Light. It’s not tremendously difficult to be light, the world is so very dark that even our most feeble attempts at goodness look angelic.
The time of pretending to be Worldlings is over. Our power doesn’t come from our flesh. Our strength comes from God. We can do marvelous things… in His power, His strength. We are given the task of being lights – and so He will empower us to shine. We have the Word of God! We have the Holy Spirit! We have all that we need.
The need is desperate, we have Bread in a world maddened from hunger.
We want to draw the world to Christ in the same way that a wife draws her unbelieving husband to Christ – without a word. Fortunately our Lord has left us with any number of instructions.
